Some professionals spend their careers in academia. Others build their expertise solely through industry experience.
Dr. Daniel Tan has deliberately pursued both.
With more than three decades of experience spanning financial services, entrepreneurship, corporate training, higher education, and the performing arts, Daniel believes that the most valuable knowledge is not simply discovered—it is applied. His work is centred on helping individuals and organisations make better decisions by combining academic rigour with practical experience.
Today, he works as a scholar-practitioner, corporate trainer, financial adviser, lecturer, keynote speaker, and entrepreneur. While these roles may appear diverse, they are connected by a common purpose: translating complex ideas into practical insights that create meaningful outcomes.
Daniel began his career in business-to-business technology sales before entering the financial services industry, where he spent many years advising individuals, families, and business owners on wealth management, retirement planning, estate planning, and succession strategies.
Over the course of his advisory career, he has guided more than a thousand clients and led teams of financial consultants, developing future advisers through recruitment, coaching, leadership, and professional development. Along the way, he earned numerous personal and organisational awards while maintaining a strong commitment to ethical, client-centred advice.
His entrepreneurial journey led to the founding of Let's Go Tour Singapore, where he transformed an idea into one of Singapore's most recognised experiential tourism brands. Under his leadership, the company received multiple industry accolades, including the Singapore Tourism Board's Experience of the Year award and TripAdvisor's Hall of Fame recognition, before he successfully exited the business in 2019.
Believing that professional experience should be complemented by evidence-based thinking, Daniel pursued postgraduate studies while continuing his professional career.
He graduated with distinction from the University of Roehampton's MBA programme before earning a Doctor of Business Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, where his research explored Singaporeans' adoption of the Singapore Financial Data Exchange (SGFinDex). His doctoral work examined how trust, usability, and human judgement influence the adoption of financial technology, reflecting his long-standing interest in the intersection of technology, consumer behaviour, and decision-making.
Today, Daniel continues to contribute to higher education as an adjunct lecturer and corporate educator, teaching subjects including business management, marketing, communication, financial planning, and professional development.
As a corporate trainer and keynote speaker, Daniel believes that effective learning should extend beyond inspiration. His programmes are designed to produce measurable behavioural change through practical application.
Drawing upon his experience as a business leader, educator, entrepreneur, and researcher, he delivers training in leadership, emotional intelligence, communication, sales, customer engagement, artificial intelligence applications, and financial literacy. Whether speaking to executives, professionals, students, or entrepreneurs, his emphasis remains consistent: helping people develop better judgement, stronger relationships, and greater confidence in decision-making.
Away from the classroom and boardroom, Daniel is also an actor and stand-up comedian, appearing in television dramas, films, commercials, and live performances. These experiences have deepened his appreciation for storytelling, communication, and human connection—skills that continue to influence his teaching, leadership, and public speaking.
He is also committed to serving the community through mentoring, education, and professional organisations. Daniel currently serves as Vice-Chairperson of The Actors' Society and has held leadership and volunteer roles supporting financial literacy, youth mentoring, and education.
Throughout his career, Daniel has remained driven by a simple belief: knowledge has little value unless it improves people's lives.
Whether advising clients, facilitating executive workshops, mentoring emerging professionals, conducting research, or speaking at conferences, he seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice—helping individuals and organisations navigate complexity with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
